Jack's Winter Report on the 2nd Annual "MilehighTri"

Good day all you athletes.

Hope you are all enjoying this balmy winter and are taking advantage of it with a little outdoor activity!!

Just got thru our January and March meetings and are getting real excited about the 2012 edition of the Milehigh Tri! I am very pleased to report that Murray and Lorie from Runners Soul here in Med Hat have embraced the Milehigh Tri once again with their sponsorship. This year a part of the participant goodie bag will be an awesome biking shirt sponsored by Runners Soul. So; when you are filling your entry out make sure you fill in an accurate shirt size cuz these things are gonna be a sought after piece of apparel. It's this kind of support that puts the Milehigh a mile high above the rest! Make sure that if you get a chance; to reciprocate support back to Runners Soul.

I'm also very happy to welcome 3 new board members. Shaye Ford has jumped onboard to coordinate our huge volunteer base. Shaye had volunteered last year and has decided to expand her role with the Milehigh Tri this year. Byron Lambert has also come onboard and will be a huge welcome addition with his previous triathlon experience, keen business knowledge and youthful foresight. Ryan Scott participated in last years tri and has commented on how he would love to see the sport grow and succeed in this community in the future, and so has committed to our volunteer board . It's this kind of attitude on our committee that makes this event so rewarding for me.

I am also excited about the Medicine Hat YMCA Y Tri which will be hosted by the Y this May 27th. I know Patrick has setup a program to get in "triathlon shape"; so what a great way to prepare for the more challenging Elkwater Milehigh Tri than to participate in the spring Y Tri...just think you could get in competitive shape and stay that way all summer just by committing to these 2 events; oh yeh...you'll probably enjoy yourself and live longer too!! To register for this event go to ymca-medicinehat.org.

This year the committee has decided to reverse the bike route (so you will be travelling up Horseshoe Canyon); this should make the climb to the bench much easier as you are climbing to the same elevation over 4 km as opposed to just over 1 km last year. It is also a wider track headed up Horseshoe thus enabling the faster riders to pass more easily.

That's it, get enterin and have a great rest of the winter.

Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park

As the venue for the 2nd Annual MilehighTri it is just half an hour south of the TransCanada Highway, the Cypress Hills rise gently, climbing 600 metres above the prairies. With its unique climate and mix of forest, wetlands and grasslands, this high plateau is home to an astonishing diversity of plants and animals . . .
